Mr Bin Shafar is the Chairman of the Board and one of ASGC’s founding partners. Since ASGC’s inception in 1989, he has contributed to the evolution and success of projects such as the Golden Mile, Bay Square, One Tower, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Business Central Towers, Sheraton 4 Points, Dubai Police Headquarters, UAE Ministry of Public Works & Housing, Dubai Airport Freezone Authority (“DAFZA”) Headquarters, Siemens Headquarters, Dubai Studio City, The Villa, The Greens, Oceanscape Tower, Ambulatory Hospitals, the Formula 1 Showroom and the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Mr Bin Shafar was named on the Top 100 Power List by Construction Week in 2012. He is a retired Major General of the UAE Armed Forces and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a Master degree in Military Science.

Mr Azmy is an Executive Director and President of the company, as well as one of ASGC’s founding partners. He brings more than 26 years of construction industry leadership and executive management experience, overseeing the corporate direction and strategy for the Group’s local, regional and international operations with a focus on customers, strategic planning and diversification, leadership, innovation and technology. Under Mr Azmy’s leadership, ASGC won the Mohammed Bin Rashid (“MRM”) Business Award and was named Construction Company of the Year, Contractor of the Year, Outstanding Institutional Model for Labour Administration, Big Project Contractor of the Year and Best Safety.

Mr Azmy was named on the Top 100 Power List by Construction Week in 2013. He graduated from the University of Asiut in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Prior to founding ASGC, he was at Arab Contractors.

Abdul Aziz Mohamed Bin Shafar

Mr Bin Shafar is an Executive Director and company's Vice President. He has over 15 years of experience in the field of civil engineering, contracting and real estate development. He started his career as a project manager at ASGC and was responsible for the overall supervision of some of ASGC’s most prominent construction projects, such as Dubai Internet City. Mr Bin Shafar holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado, United States.

Mr Azmy is an Executive Director and CEO. As the Chief Executive Officer of Al Shafar General Contracting LLC, he formulates corporate strategy and steers ASGC toward the achievement of its mission, vision and philosophy. Mr Azmy has been a Mensa member since 2000 and is a member of the Advisory Board of Engineers of the American University in Dubai and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is committed to corporate social responsibility and a recognised speaker at various business and academic conferences. Mr Azmy is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization (“YPO”) and was named on the Arabian Business “ 30 under 30” list in 2010 and “CEO of the Year” by the International Quality & Productivity Center (“IQPC”) in 2014.

Mr Azmy graduated from the American University in Cairo with a degree (Highest Honors) in Construction Engineering in 2002. He also holds an Executive Masters in Business Administration from the London School of Business, United Kingdom and a Masters of Science in International Construction Management from the University of Bath, United Kingdom.

Mr Al Sayyah is a Non-Executive Director and one of the founding shareholders of ASGC. He supports and facilitates high-level strategic planning and governance, and provides advisory and consultation services. Prior to his entrepreneurial success, Mr Al Sayyah served in the banking industry for over 35 years in roles with HSBC and Standard Chartered Bank and has held executive management positions with firms such as Gulf & Levant. He has a particular interest in the development of human capital, including significant involvement in the UAE’s Emiratisation program.

Since November 2006, Mr Buamim has been the President and CEO of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, which represents, supports and protects the interests of the business community in Dubai. In this capacity, Mr Buamim has a deep understanding of trade, an important driver of the Emirate’s economic development. He also brings significant experience as a professional manager and administrator in the public and private sectors. He has been the Secretary General of the Dubai Economic Council, a corporate manager at HSBC, a lecturer of Finance & Banking at the UAE University’s College of Business & Economics and a Senior System Engineer at the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority, which he joined in 1996 at the start of his professional career.

Mr Buamim also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce’s (“ICC”) World Chambers Federation in Paris. Educated in the United States, he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Southern California in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. In 2002, he obtained a Masters of Business Administration with Honors in Finance from the University of Missouri—Kansas City. Mr Buamim is a member of the Board of Directors of the UAE Central Bank, Dubai World and Union Properties and he is Chairman of National General Insurance. Previously, he served as Chairman of Emirates Financial Services and Emirates NBD Capital and as a board member of Emirates NBD Bank and Network International.

Mr Malas has over twenty years of experience in finance, investment and asset management roles and strong industry knowledge of general manufacturing, information technology and financial markets. He has served as CEO of Majid Al Futtaim Holding LLC (also known as Majid Al Futtaim Group LLC), Majid Al Futtaim Asset Management Holdings LLC and the Majid Al Futtaim Trust and as an executive director of Majid Al Futtaim Properties LLC. Mr Malas was Director for South Asia at RSB Group and he has held various positions with the World Bank Group, including as Manager in the International Finance Corporation’s (“IFC”) Central Asia, Middle East, and North Africa departments. Mr Malas was the Regional Director, South Asia for the IFC in New Delhi, India, where he was directly responsible for all new investments in the region and for portfolio supervision.

From 2000 to 2004, Mr Malas worked in Egypt, first as the CEO of Fleming CIIC, a Cairo-based investment bank, where the bank became the largest investment bank in the MENA region under his leadership. He also served in various management capacities at EFG-Hermes in Cairo, where he was instrumental in developing its emerging markets database into a fully fledged commercial product. As a result, he has extensive experience in Latin America, Asia, Southern Europe and the Middle East.

He has also served as a director of Delta Rubis, Evolvence Capital, Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC (also known as Commercial Bank of Ceylon Ltd.) and EFG-Hermes. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and holds a Masters in Business Administration from George Washington University, United States and a Bachelor of Arts from the American University in Beirut, Lebanon.

Mr Abdel-Wadood is a partner in The Abraaj Group, overseeing its investment activities across various geographies, and he serves on its board as Chairman of the Management Executive Committee. Previously, he was CEO for the UAE at EFG-Hermes, co-founded Sigma Capital and served as its Managing Director, was Director of Development and Investments at Orascom Group and has served on the boards of several publicly listed and private companies. Mr Abdel-Wadood is also a member of the YPO and the World Economic Forum named him a “Global Leader for Tomorrow” in 2002 and a “Young Global Leader” in 2007. He graduated from American University in Cairo with a degree in Business Administration and he holds a Masters in Business Administration from Georgetown University, United States.
